Missouri Needs MONA to End Discriminaiton

The Kansas City Star reported on Sunday that legally married same-sex couples will not be allowed to stay as couples at City Mission’s family shelter. Regardless of the legality of same-sex marriage, City Mission would not change their stance. Which means even if the courts legalize same-sex marriage across Missouri, same-sex couples may be discriminated against by private organizations, like City Mission.

The Missouri Legislature needs to pass MONA, the Missouri Non Discrimination Act, in order to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from discrimination. There are currently no protections in place to keep Missourians from being fired from their jobs, evicted from their homes, or denied full access to public goods and accomodations. And this is simply unacceptable.
